"Dead Cities" was the first IDM album I ever got for myself as a teenager. I guess the evocative, haunted title of the album and the song formed the soundtrack of those strange lost years when as a boy, I would pore through the amazing album sleeve and imagine the closest faraway place: a mythical London viewed through 2000 AD comics, JG Ballard and half-remembered childhood snippets of Blade Runner dubbed to third-hand VHS copies. After all these years, even though that place has faded into a slightly queasy nostalgia, it's nice to redraw those maps of Dead Cities for posterity.
