For the Now or Never Festival 2024 held in Naarm, Australia- I collaborated with Indonesian electronic music duo Gabber Modus Operandi to create a set of visuals that incorporated and hallucinated from a dataset of specifically Indonesian memes. Meme culture in South East Asia and Indonesia in particular has a specific flavor, one borne of a street-level appropriation of technology, pop-culture, and absurdity, that when combined with the acultural, ahistorical filter of generative AI results in something strange, unexpected and novel. Presented in August at the Royal Exhibition Building, Naarm.
